R.I.P. E.T.B.

It was 12 years ago today, almost to the minute, when we lost Howard.

I think about him multiple times a day.

I will always love him.

Dad’s are great….Lost mine in 71 when I was 19…..Be thankful you had him awhile and he gave millions of people a smile….I watched him the other night at dinner on the Andy G. Show….What a character…..He will never be forgotten in our generation nor the generation before…..I remember my Dad laughing so hard at Bass and Fife that one time he fell out of bed….. Not a week goes by that I don’t call somebody Ernest T…..Jim Silvester

We all miss your father, he was the best on The a.g.t.v. show. Original humor he had.

    David
It was a complete joy and honor to know Howard. We miss him each day as well.

David, ETB was a complete life force. In every way. And as much as I loved everyone on the AGS no one, no one compared to your Dad. I can’t tell you how often I quote him (and I was a little, little girl when I first ‘met’ him on my TV). And then I laugh. A lot. Miss him every day and am sending you many hugs and best wishes. Wrap yourself in the fabulous memories. xoxoxoxo

I absolutely LOVE ETB! And what a comedic genius! I never get tired of watching the episodes he was in and wish there had been many more. I wish I could have told him that in person. Thanks for the laughter ETB.

We had just visited Mt. Airy NC on May 23 on a pretty wet gloomy day. But my heart burst with happiness and joy seeing buildings familiar to the show. I imagined being there with Andy, Barney, and especially Ernest T! The antique mall had quite a bit of memorabilia and photos of the cast. I bought a vintage printing block of a “M” for Mayberry. I still want to go back for Mayberry days and relive happier times with members of the Mayberry family

Just watched the classic episode with Ernest T Bass… “How do you do Mrs Wiley” was a memorable line in Andy Griffith show “My Fair Ernest. Also he kept calling his girl Romena. Hah ha ha. Howard will forever be remembered. 7.14.17

It can’t be that long ago! It seems like just yesterday I spoke with him at Mayberry Days and found out he was also on Midway Island! and the great tribute to Jerry Lewis….I remember going to see him at the Drive-In with others as I was too young to drive at that time! I will always hold dear the short while we had to speak as he was just a plain down to earth person like me, but he was so much more talented!! Thanks for sharing him with us!

There will never be another howard morris with his quick wit, funny humor and ‘on the fly lines’, to speak on the ‘a.g.s’. He is truly missed..

I never realized what a career he had, but am not surprised at all. A man of multiple talents, from serious to comic, but I firmly believe he like comedy best of all! After seeing his comedic genius on The Andy Griffith Show, then finding an LP of him with Sorrell Booke..Boss Hogg, and Fun Girl Jean Carson in the musical Finian’s Rainbow, I came to a bit better understand this talented man!
And it was a total pleasure to meet him at Mayberry Days in 2003, I believe it was, all because I was wearing my USNavy Midway Island cap! He told me he had been on Midway in 1943 and in 1957 I roomed in the old movie hall where he had performed! I have two autographed photos on my walls which I cherish! Also have an Ernest T fan….the old hand powered one if you wanted to keep cool! No greater honor could I give than to say What a multi talented smart man! The world was a richer place while he was here and for all the memories he left for so many! I miss you, Howard Morris….Midway Island Veteran!

Just came across this site while surfing the internet. What a nice tribute to your dad that you wrote! ETB was always one of my favorite TV characters … Funny .. funny (in Andy’s voice)! They may have written ETB’s character but only HM could’ve made him come alive. No way they could’ve written his “jumping” and his “maniacal laugh”! Oh,my gosh, the accent … a lunatic hillbilly!
Also, Kelp’s dad in TNP … “I was finishing ironing your underthings, Edwina” all the way to “1/2 of a sawbuck!” Oh, and of course, (to Edwina) “mush, mush, mush … eh, that’s enough!”. Pure comic genius.
